Rename Todd & Tegan
Changes the display name used everywhere in the app — budget areas, splits, dashboard labels, receipts and existing transaction text.
🧩 This Device's Dashboard Cards
Choose whose card layout this device should show. Each person can pick their own cards, order and layout on the Dashboard and Mobile view. This device's assignment is itself saved to Google Sheets (keyed to this browser), so Todd's phone and Tegan's phone can each show a different arrangement and remember it even after clearing local browser data.
📧 Notification Emails
Which email address gets used when a reminder is tied to Todd or Tegan. New reminders on a device also default to whichever person's dashboard cards that device is currently set to show above.
Split Transaction Payment Details
Saved here so the split transaction screen can put the right account on the exported receipt, depending on who you're sending it as.
Transaction Types
Manage the types available when adding transactions, coding rules, bulk edits, and filters — rename custom types, reorder the list, or add new ones.
CSV import format
The importer recognises common headings such as Date, Description, Amount, Debit, Credit, Account, Category and Type. Imported transactions are checked against your coding rules and anything unresolved is marked for review.
CSV Duplicate Detection
Controls how strictly the CSV importer flags a row as a possible duplicate of an existing transaction — loosen this if genuine repeat purchases keep getting matched as duplicates, or tighten it if real duplicates are slipping through.
Receipt Scanning — GST Rate
The rate used to estimate GST on scanned receipts in Quick Add when no explicit GST line is found. Defaults to 10% (Australia's current rate).
Google Sheets Web App URL
The Apps Script address everything syncs through. Paste in a new URL here whenever you redeploy the script — no code changes needed.
Google Sheets sync
Automatically saves the complete app state, including budget breakdown items and rough days, to your Google Sheet. You can also force and verify a save here.
No test run yet.
Google Drive backups
Saves a dated copy of the whole spreadsheet into a Todd & Tegan Budget Backups folder on your Google Drive.
📴 By default this only runs while the app happens to be open in a browser. Want it to back up even when the app is closed?
Receipt Storage (Google Drive)
Receipts you attach from the Split Transaction screen are uploaded to a folder in your Google Drive so you can open the original photo or PDF in a new tab any time — even away from this app. Change the folder name below if you'd like them saved somewhere else.
Scheduled Reminders
These are checked every hour by the Apps Script trigger you set up, and each one is emailed at the time of day you choose. Toggle a reminder off to pause it without deleting it.
How this works
Choose from a range of reminder types — some run on a schedule you set (like "email me every 2nd Friday to log Tegan's pay"), while others are checked automatically every day (at the time you choose) and only email you when something's actually true (like a budget area going over, or a split still sitting unpaid). Reminders are checked and sent by a small script running on Google's servers (via your existing Apps Script project), so they still arrive even if this app isn't open. One-time setup required — see the code & instructions below.
Credit Card
Used to show how close you are to your limit and to estimate interest-free days remaining.
Loan
Used to estimate interest saved by delaying your redraw for as long as possible.
Loan Repayment Target
The monthly repayment amount used to prefill the Loan Repayment field in Log Pay Sweep, split between Tegan and Todd however you like below. Each person's pay sweeps default to their share, and you'll get a warning if their contributions for the cycle would go over it.
How this works
Set up a list of automatic allocations for Todd and Tegan's pay — a fixed dollar amount, a percentage of that pay, or a "whatever's left" rule that mops up the remainder. Rules run top to bottom, so put fixed and percentage rules first and put a Remaining Balance rule last. Then, from 💰 Log Pay Sweep on the Accounts page, tick "Apply payday rules" under each person and the matching transactions are created automatically alongside the sweep.
🔁 Different pay frequencies? Each rule has its own "Runs" setting. If someone gets paid more often than a bill is due — e.g. paid fortnightly but the mortgage is monthly — set that rule to "Once a month" and it'll only fire on the first payday it sees each calendar month, skipping the second. Rules can also be set to fire every 2nd, 3rd or 4th payday for other schedules (e.g. quarterly).
📍 Configuring when it starts: Every rule has an optional Start date — set it to, say, 23 November and the rule will be skipped on any payday before then, then fire normally from that date onward. For "Every 2nd/3rd/4th payday" rules, you can also use the Starting payday picker to say exactly which upcoming payday it should first fire on — e.g. pick "Next payday" to fire straight away, or "Payday 2 of 3" to skip one first. Use the ↺ Reset button on a rule any time you need to restart its schedule from scratch.
↕️ Reordering & sorting: Drag the ⠿ handle to reorder rules (handy for "Remaining balance" rules, which should always go last), or switch the Order dropdown at the top of each list to A–Z Alphabetical to sort rules by their description instead — switching back to Custom restores your manual drag order.
⚠️ Pay Variance Alerts
Flags an Income transaction coded to Todd's or Tegan's pay area when the amount actually received doesn't match what you told the app to expect — handy for catching a smaller-than-usual pay, a missed penalty rate, or a data-entry typo. A pay is flagged the moment it breaches either tolerance below — whichever check is stricter applies, so a variance that's small in dollars but big in percentage (or vice versa) still gets caught.
A flagged pay shows a ⚠ Pay Variance icon on the Transactions tab (hover for the expected vs. actual breakdown) and is automatically marked for that person's review.

🎭 Update Demo Data
Re-scrambles Demo Mode from a fresh copy of your current real data — same transactions, budgets, rules and goals, with a brand-new random dollar-scrambling applied so it never looks identical twice. Safe to click anytime; it never touches or exposes your real data.
🔍 Find Duplicate Transactions
Scans every transaction for likely duplicates — same day, same amount, similar description — so you can run a quick health check every once in a while. Split transactions and their generated shares are never flagged.
📥 Import Full Setup (CSV)
Set the whole app up from one spreadsheet — people & pay, budget areas, budget items, savings goals, coding rules, transactions and settings. Download the template, fill it in (Excel is fine), then import it.
Backup everything
Download all transactions, budgets, savings goals and rules as one JSON backup.
Restore backup
Restore a backup previously exported from this app.
Reset app
Remove all locally stored data and restore the sample setup.
Delete all transactions
Permanently removes every transaction across all cycles and years — your budgets, savings goals, coding rules, and menu setup are not affected. This cannot be undone unless you've exported a backup first.
